Hi all, it’s Uncle Imad. This is probably the question I get asked most, right after “how many lessons will I need.” So here’s my honest answer.

Automatic is the easier start for most of you

If you just want your licence and don’t have a specific reason to drive manual, automatic is simpler. You’re not juggling a clutch and gear changes while also learning to watch the road, so most nervous or first-time drivers pick it up faster with me.

Manual gives you more options later on

A manual licence lets you drive both manual and automatic cars. If your family car is manual, or you might need one for work down the track, it’s worth putting in the extra effort now instead of converting your licence later.

Went automatic? You can still test in manual later

Getting your P’s on an automatic doesn’t lock you out of manual forever. You can do more lessons and re-test in a manual car whenever you’re ready. No need to decide everything on day one.

My honest advice, straight up

If you’re not sure, start automatic with me. You’ll build confidence faster, and confidence is what actually gets you through the test. If you already know you’ll need manual for work or family, tell me early and I’ll build your lessons around it from the start.

Not sure which is right for you? Get in touch and we’ll sort it out together on your first lesson.
